Educators at Discovery Place Education Studio developed this curriculum with camp programs for middle school students in mind. Many venues that feature giant screen theaters also offer on-site multi-session programs like camps. This content incorporates a visit to the theater to see "Dinosaurs of Antarctica," although the workshop activities could also be used in settings without access to a theater.

Designed as a full-day, week-long curriculum, there is flexibility such that camp leaders could shorten the program by foregoing some activities or even dropping a day or two of the program. The resulting experience would still provide students with an engaging, project-based exploration of Antarctic science and field-based research.

The content invites students to role-play as interns spending the week alongside scientists and explorers as they recover fossils from beneath Antarctic rock to learn about the continent’s ever-changing geology and climate. Antarctica holds clues to understanding the changing climate of today. The activities challenge them to consider how they might convince their peers that monitoring and minimizing human impact on the environment is important.
